Our daughter, Katelyn, was diagnosed with autism at age 2.5 back in January 2009. I began this blog in November of 2008 to share our journey as we entered the world of autism. In December of 2011, Katelyn was also diagnosed with psychosis at age 5, which is extremely rare. It is too early to determine a specific diagnosis, such as schizophrenia.

"What would happen if the autism gene was eliminated from the gene pool? You would have a bunch of people standing around in a cave, chatting and socializing and not getting anything done." --Temple Grandin
"Giraffe" may look like a typical "lovey" blanket to most, but to Katelyn, he is her best friend from day 1. She sings to him, snuggles with him, shares her snack with him, talks to him, kisses him, pretends he is sleeping -- bottom line, she loves him. Giraffe even has a special song that she sings ONLY to him. She calls to him when she cannot find him. He is truly her best friend.
